The Ross Reserve Sports Facility in Noble Park is a premium community standard facility designed with a multi-purpose function at its core. Serving multiple sporting grounds and a variety of groups and activities, the facility boasts a thoughtfully designed pavilion offering flexible spaces that can easily adapt to the community's changing needs.

In collaboration with the City of Greater Dandenong, SPORTENG played a crucial role in upgrading this sports hub, particularly in redeveloping the athletics track and a new synthetic turf soccer pitch.

THE CHALLENGE

The City of Greater Dandenong embarked on an ambitious upgrade of the Ross Reserve Athletics to create a comprehensive sporting hub. This mega project included the construction of a new pavilion, swimming complex, skate park, and a synthetic turf soccer pitch. The key challenges included ensuring the facilities met various standards (DDA requirements, AFL Victoria, Cricket Victoria, and Football Victoria standards), providing accessibility features such as ramps, and accommodating the diverse needs of the community.

THE SOLUTION

SPORTENG provided comprehensive services to address these challenges. Initially, we conducted a detailed condition assessment and provided an Opinion of Probable Cost for the necessary works to ensure the athletics track was ready for the upcoming season.

We then delivered an assessment report, schematic design, cost estimate, and feasibility design for the development of the synthetic soccer pitch. Our team prepared detailed designs for the synthetic turf soccer pitch, incorporating high-quality VMAX50 Synthetic Turf in collaboration with Tuff Group. This dual-yarn composition turf minimises infill splash and ensures a consistent, durable, and elite playing surface.

THE RESULTS

The completion of the Ross Reserve Sports Facility marked a significant milestone. The upgraded athletics track and natural turf infield, and the new synthetic turf soccer pitch offer several benefits.

The athletics track is World Athletics Certificate II certified and is one of the largest facilities in Australia, at an impressive 10,643m2. It includes an eight-lane synthetic athletics track, four long/triple jump pits, four shot put circles, two high jump areas, two javelin run-ups, a discus/hammer throw cage, a discus throw cage, a Steeple Chase water pit, and in-ground infrastructure for pole vault. Sports lighting surrounds the area, allowing for extended use throughout the year.

The VMAX50 Synthetic Turf provides a FIFA-certified, high-performance surface, greatly benefiting the State League 4 side Springvale City Soccer Club and other local teams.

The inclusion of competition-grade lighting allows for night matches and training, significantly extending the pitch's usability. The multi-purpose pavilion, supported by $750,000 funding from the State Government, provides flexible spaces to accommodate the community's diverse needs.

The new facilities are expected to boost sports participation, providing a modern, well-equipped environment for junior and senior athletes. The upgraded pitch, athletics track, and additional grass fields offer ample space for training and matches, fostering the growth of local sports clubs.
